 Career Development

Life/Work Credits

Career Development Life/Work courses provide all students with an opportunity to reflect on their interests and strengths, develop essential career competencies, link education to employment, learn about possible career opportunities, and gain expertise in the “real world”.  All High School students in Pine Creek School Division take one of the four Life/Works Courses offered by Manitoba Education:
  • Grade 9: Life/Work Exploration
  • Grade 10: Life/Work Planning
  • Grade 11: Life/Work Building
  • Grade 12: Life/Work Transitioning

 Career Development Internship (CDI)

The logical follow-up to taking a Life/Works class is to further explore career options with a Career Development Internship (CDI).  This credit provides students with the opportunity to earn up to 2.0 high school credit(s) for an unpaid internship. The CDI credit option is intended to recognize and encourage the skills development and experience students acquire through internships.

Because students can gain valuable skills development and experience through on-the-job work experience, the Credit for Employment (CFE) credit is available to provide students with the opportunity to earn up to 2.0 high school credits for paid employment. CFE can enrich students’ understanding of the relevance of education and the importance of developing career readiness.
