Young Women’s Conference

On Thursday April 9th, 2015 Adrienne, Faith, Brooklyn, Bryanna, Brittney, Alicia, Mrs. Cameron and Mrs. Peill left the Austin School at 7:30 am for the Red River College in Winnipeg. When we got there we joined the rest of the young ladies. We were put with mentors at our own table. The teachers were put at a table in the back.

First, we were introduced to our mentor Karlie. Then we were taken for a tour of the college. We went to the machinist shop first where we saw a 3D machine making an iPhone case. After that we went to the Welding shop. There Adrienne got to try a welding simulator. After that we went to the Masonry shop where some of us got to try brick laying. Then we went to the greenhouse where there were lots of plants and flowers. Later we went to photography where we saw some judging happening. We were also there during the skills competition.

Then we had lunch. It was really delicious. It was pasta with a milky sauce and spaghetti with garlic bread and Caesar salad. Then we went around meeting other mentor. There was one lady there from West Jet. She fixes planes. We met a lady was a carpenter, and a lady who worked with Hydro and climbed really high poles with a heavy bag. Then some guys came in and built a 3 way electrical switch with us. It was lots of fun and I would gladly go again. I recommended it for all young ladies.

PINE CREEK TEACHERS HAVE NEW TOOLS TO SUPPORT STUDENT CAREER EXPLORATION

High school students have been using online tools to explore careers for many years.  Currently, high school students are using The Student Planner from MyBlueprint to help with career planning.  All About Me is the K-6 companion program to this tool.

All About Me is an online portfolio that can support classroom learning.  Students have many opportunities to discover new interests and learn about themselves.  Students can explore the world around them as they learn about career opportunities.  allows students to learn about themselves and explore different careers along the way.
